Patients have recently made complaints of having to wait for up to three hours at the hospital’s phlebotomy unit, with staff admitting that they are currently in need of more recruits.
A hospital spokeswoman told the Andover Advertiser :Since the beginning of the year we have seen a significant increase in the number of patients attending the phlebotomy unit at Andover War Memorial Hospital.”
She added that demand from patients was so great that not a single member of staff on the unit had been made redundant within the last 12 months.
“The department is actively recruiting more staff to cope with extra demand. We hope this will improve the level of service we provide soon and are sorry that this is causing our patients inconvenience,” she added.
There has been a great deal of attention paid to the hospital’s phlebotomy unit in recent years, with 2011 seeing the installation of brand new, state-of-the-art chairs made specially for blood donors.
