The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is the government agency for the Department of Justice that oversees lawful immigration to the United States. The USCIS governs the laws and regulations in which affect individuals of different visa classifications. The F-1 Visa (Academic Student) allows you to enter the United States as a full-time student at an accredited college, university, or other academic institution or in a language training program. Please follow these guidelines so that you will comply with USCIS regulations:

  • International students that are attending American Harbor College under a student visa must consult with the International Student Advisor at AHC regarding school policies to determine how these policies may impact their status.
  • Student must fulfill minimum attendance and academic requirements, probation, termination, leave of absence, extensions and change of address. Certain circumstances may have a negative impact on your status as a student and could result in termination of your visa.
  • Student must have a permanent home address outside of the United States. That address must be on file with the school granting your I-20.
  • Student must be able to support yourself without working illegally during your entire stay in the United States.
  • Student should make photocopies of: Passport and I-20. Keep the photocopies of these documents in a safe place. If original documents get lost or stolen, having copies will make the replacement process less complicated.
  • Student must first consult with the International Student Representative at AHC DSO at least 2 weeks before traveling. The AHC DSO will check student’s document and sign I-20 so that he or she will not encounter any difficulties re-entering the United States. International students from certain countries may need to obtain special “visitor visas” to enter Canada.
  • It is the student’s responsibility to check the I-20 form and not let their I-20 expire. If you need an extension on the I-20, you should contact us in a timely manner before the expiration date.
