Phlebotomists are an important part of the healthcare field. They handle blood withdrawals and transfusions, for research and several other purposes. A normal workday will see them following instructions from the supervising physician to make sure any procedures for the day run smoothly. They offer patient care, label samples, do inventory for the medical equipment, and much more. A Phlebotomist may work in a hospital, clinic, blood donation center, diagnostic lab, or outpatient care facility. Even though phlebotomy is a healthcare profession, enrolling in the needed programs require no medical experience. While some states and employers may have varying requirements, the first step is obtaining a non-degree diploma or a certificate through a Phlebotomy training program. What Is American Harbor College?
American Harbor College was established to provide students with entry-level training for a couple of different career opportunities. While they offer Phlebotomy technician training, they also have English as a second language and test of English as a foreign language. The Phlebotomy program is accredited by various different organizations including the National Healthcare Association, Laboratory Field Services, and Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Services.
What Programs Are There?
American Harbor College offers three different class schedules, day classes, evening, classes, and weekend classes. Day and evening classes consist of ten class days, and the weekend schedule has only seven class days. However, the externship that follows will have a varying schedule that is different for each student. This schedule will depend on the site where the externship is taking place, and if the student decided on a full-time, part-time, or weekend schedule. The possible site as well for the preferred schedule will be discussed with the student when they are first enrolling at AHC.
The Requirements
Enrolling in the Phlebotomy program at AHC may not require any previous medical experience, students will have to have either a high school diploma or GED. People who received a high school diploma in another country are still eligible to enroll, but their transcripts will have to be evaluated.
Other Services
American Harbor College offers students much more than just a few months long program. They have services offered after completion of the program to help former students succeed in their new field. These services include career development workshops such as resume writing and interview techniques. They also offer job leads and referrals. Resume writing is meant to help students craft a resume perfect for snagging jobs, and interview techniques will run students through role-play scenarios so they know what to expect. Job leads and referrals are designed to point recent graduates in the right direction on their job hunts.
What Is The Career Outlook?
In 2014, a study found that over one hundred thousand Phlebotomists were working throughout the U.S. The study also predicted that the number could increase by twenty-five percent by 2024, which is higher than seen in most other fields.
