“I would rate my overall experience with AHC as five stars.”
As a premed student, my journey toward becoming a physician has been an exciting combination of academic rigor and hands-on exploration. I’ve always been driven by a desire to understand patient care from all angles, which led me to seek out opportunities in clinical settings. Phlebotomy quickly caught my attention as a great way to dive headfirst into the world of healthcare, allowing me to interact with patients, collect specimens, and learn the ropes of laboratory procedures firsthand with the hope of finding a job in a laboratory setting! Beyond my academic pursuits, I’m a firm believer in the importance of balance and self-care. When I’m not buried in textbooks or donning my phlebotomy gloves, you’ll likely find me socializing with friends or catching waves out on the water. These hobbies not only keep me grounded but also remind me of the human connection and joy that lie beyond the confines of the lab.
I’ve taken my phlebotomy license and put it to good use at a research institute. It’s been an exhilarating experience to apply the skills I’ve learned in a real-world setting. This role has allowed me to not only sharpen my phlebotomy techniques but also gain valuable insight into the research process. It’s incredibly fulfilling to see how my work contributes to the advancement of science and medicine, and I’m excited to continue exploring this intersection between patient care and scientific discovery.
My journey at American Harbor College was transformative, shaping me into the phlebotomist I am today. Through rigorous coursework and hands-on training, I developed the skills and confidence necessary for success in the field. What truly set this experience apart was the genuine support and mentorship from the school’s owners, who not only guided me through the program but also helped me secure employment post-graduation. Their kindness and encouragement fostered a sense of belonging and community that made my time there truly special. During my externship at a family clinic, I had the opportunity to apply my training in a real-world setting, interacting with patients and honing my craft. Looking back, American Harbor College not only prepared me for a career in phlebotomy but also instilled in me a deep passion for compassionate patient care.
My short-term and long-term goals are deeply intertwined with my passion for healthcare and continual growth. In the short term, I aspire to excel in my current role, leveraging every opportunity to enhance my skills and contribute meaningfully to the healthcare team. Additionally, I am eager to explore further education opportunities, such as pursuing additional certifications or specialized training, to expand my knowledge and advance my career. In the long term, I envision myself continuing to pursue higher levels of education, potentially transitioning into roles such as a physician assistant (PA) or even a medical doctor (MD)!

“I definitely got everything I could have from American Harbor College and then some.”
How are you currently using your phlebotomy license now?
Right after finishing the American Harbor College phlebotomy certification program, I was fortunate enough to get offered a job through a work connection. I was working for a gym, and made sure to stay friendly and professional with all of our customers. I got connected with the owner of a private lab that was contracted with various skilled nursing facilities in Southern California, and began working for them as a mobile phlebotomist, driving 70-100 miles a day. After I gained some phlebotomy experience doing that for 5 months, I applied to a private practice and a few Hospital labs. Each place had their own requirements and expectations, but thankfully I landed a hospital job that is right for me. I currently practice Phlebotomy in a well-known hospital in Orange County. If you currently work or go to school, those places may be great networking opportunities if you keep an open mind and talk to those around you.
How was your experience before, during, and after graduating from American Harbor College?
During the American Harbor College program, I was unsure if pursuing phlebotomy was the right decision. I needed a lot of support and assurance at the time, and my self-confidence was shaky; attempting to get licensed during the COVID-19 pandemic also left me with a lot of questions. I remember several conversations that really switched things around for me, though, and whether it was the instructors or management team, I was surrounded by ample support and assurance that I had what it would take to be a great allied healthcare professional, and that with practice, my skill set would follow suit.
What are your short-term and/or long-term goals? Some examples could be a new and/or flexible job, or further education, such as a RN, PA, MD, MLT, CLS, or any other health care programs.
My short term goal with phlebotomy is just to gain some valuable, paid experience in healthcare at a flexible job while I pursue my career in Nursing as a registered nurse. I am currently in Nursing school now, after practicing phlebotomy for a couple years, and my long term goal would be to graduate and start building, hopefully with a partner (but no worries, if not). I just want to be able to invest in my community and family in a way that is meaningful for future generations.
On a scale of 1 to 5 stars how would you rate your overall experience with AHC
5 stars — I definitely got everything I could have from American Harbor College and then some.

When I first Googled "Best Phlebotomy Programs Near Me," American Harbor College was not even the first...
Me personally at the time, I definitely had a plethora of low self-esteem I needed to work through, coupled with some extenuating circumstances that occurred through out the year I was training to become licensed — but Lin and Bryan and every single instructor worked with me personally considering my specific situations to ensure that communication between me and myself (positive self-talk), and communication between me and the school was solid so that I would not lose track of my goal to be a phlebotomist. They all encouraged me to keep coming in to practice, to clear my mind of uncertainty, and to rely on the skills I was learning to get to where I needed to be.
Now I am fully licensed as a certified phlebotomy technician; and I have a full-time phlebotomy job, which I got to pick from a number of various job opportunities.
I am so excited to say that this was the best Phlebotomy program for me, and the connections I formed here were priceless; tuition was truly a small price to pay.

I am currently a pre-nursing student, finishing my prerequisites for nursing school and was looking for...
My experience with AHC has been amazing. When I initially called AHC, I had no idea what phlebotomy entailed, but Brian thoroughly explained how the program worked and what to expect, step by step. Linnea, Brian, and Mr. Castro were all great teachers, always willing to go the extra mile, and were very supportive throughout the entire process.
One of my short-term goals is to work in a hospital as a phlebotomist and since that’s a job commonly in demand, I am excited and confident for the future. My long-term goal is to obtain my BSN and work as an RN, and having phlebotomy under my belt will definitely help me in my future career.

I am a newly immigrant. Before moving to U.S., I’ve spent a good amount of time to map out my settlement plan...
American Harbor College (AHC) is my sole option when search for an accredited, affordable, trusted program but also near where I live. AHC provided the platform for me to be successful in nailing the starting job, a first job ever in this new country. AHC plays a huge part in boosting my confidence and being a healthcare worker now and I am using pieces of what I learned in everything I do at work right now.
And that’s only 8 months after I arrived to U.S., I accomplished a handfuls of achievement: being certified in healthcare field, got a full time job with good rate and benefits, got a car, and be able to drive to work everyday. And, I am going to attend college next semester!

I was initially motivated to become a phlebotomist to learn the invaluable skill of drawing blood before I began...
I am currently working at LabCorp as a Patient Services Technician where my responsibilities are specimen collection, specimen processing and handling, and any additional care that a patient needs or requests. Entering the medical field in any avenue can be daunting—especially in one that requires a specific skillset. I definitely felt overwhelmed by the different routes to become a phlebotomist, the requirements for each course, and the potential job prospects thereafter. Thankfully, everyone at AHC made the process a breeze.
During my initial conversations with Brian, any and all concerns I had were addressed and I was able to begin the course feeling confident that I was in good hands. The coursework required and taught by Professor Castro is presented in a fun, and easy-to-digest way, and practicing my skills and dexterity under his supervision was an absolute delight. Learning a new skill can certainly be challenging, but the staff’s patience and knowledge created one of the best learning environments I have ever experienced.
Earning my phlebotomy license has been one of the best experiences and I feel like I can progress into the next chapter of my life equipped with the abilities that AHC gave to me. I am currently enrolled in an Entry-Level Master of Science in Nursing program at California Baptist University, and I am looking forward to utilizing my phlebotomy skills as an RN and looking back fondly at my time at AHC! Overall, my experience with the program was 10/10, five stars, and two thumbs up! I’m so grateful for this little gem of a school and the amazing doors that it opened for me. Thank you AHC!

This college was great…reasonably prices, right off the 5 freeway, great support and lots of practice...
They offered a great schedule for working individuals (weeknights and weekends). This course is accelerated so it was challenging but the two professors, Manny and Mr. Castro were a wealth of knowledge and made the material understandable. If you do take the two week course, be prepared to have no life (seriously, not that big of a deal).
Like with everything, you get what you put in…with that said, you do have to read almost a whole textbook within a short period of time, but it’s all applicable material. Also, you get to draw blood on your first day! I recommend you jump right in and get your practice in as soon as possible…which you’re only helping yourself become a better phlebotomist.
The administrators, Brian and Lin are really cool. They help you find an externship and provide job hunting and resume support. They try to work with your schedule if life happens and you have to juggle a couple classes around or change externship dates.

I had an excellent experience here taking a phlebotomy course. Communication with staff was direct and available at almost every hour.
The course prepared me for my exams which I had passed comfortably. I have no problems calling in to receive additional assistance and ask questions.

Recently passed my NHA exam for Phlebotomy with 95% on my first attempt.
Recently passed my NHA exam for Phlebotomy with 95% on my first attempt. All the staff are VERY supportive! Day one started hard and fast , I immediately felt kind of overwhelmed but by the end of the class, everything started to make a lot of sense each day. I was looking forward to going class every day, looking forward to learning, looking forward to practicing drawing blood.
It is a fast paced class but Mr. Castro is the BEST, he is very informative, patient, and prepares you very WELL for what to expect on the NHA exam and on the medical field! It’s been one the BEST decisions I’ve made.
Great school I would recommend this course for anybody that’s trying to have a carrier in a short time. Thank you American Harbor College staff for your support, the GREAT experience I got on my externship, and for helping become a phlebotomist within a month!

I was and sort of still am a student here at AHC. To say this accredited school was great in all aspects is...
I felt very supported in my learning process and very well prepared for when I took my licensing test as well as when I got to be apart of my externship. Time was a big factor in my process in proceeding with obtaining a job in the phlebotomy field for personal reasons, but when it was in the works of me finding a job and being given the opportunity, I felt more than comfortable reaching back out to Lin and Brian for help in preparing. With their assistance and attention to detail in helping me make my resume tailored for the job, with interview questions we went over, I felt more than equipped with the tools they gave me. I am now working for Hoag Memorial Presbyterian and couldn’t be happier with all the support and help AHS has provided me. Thank you, Lin and Brian!

I have completed the Phlebotomy program here at American Harbor College and can say that it was...
Not only did the class prepare me well for the certification exam and hands-on phlebotomy experience, but the staff was nothing less than exceptional. Brian and Linn go above and beyond for their students and Mr. Castro provided me with the confidence and reassurance I needed during hands-on practice.
Brian and Linn have been amazing throughout the entire process and always having my best interest in mind, helping me achieve all the goals I desired. I know I have made long-term connections here and recommend anyone thinking about phlebotomy programs to come to AHC.

Currently the hyperbaric safety director at Life Hyperbarics in Stanton and a member of Dive Rescue International as a Public Safety Diver.
Working as a wound care technician I decided to further my education as a phlebotomist to be able to help doctors and other healthcare practitioners gain the insight needed to make important healthcare decisions about patient treatment plans.
When I was looking into different phlebotomy schools I knew AHC was the right choice because apart from the staff showing professionalism they value and care for their students.
Certainly a great decision and since then we have formed a strong relationship. My long term goal is to enhance my phlebotomy experience and In the near future become a forensic phlebotomist as a Public Safety Diver.

Our experience with American Harbor College was awesome right from the start! The first day I called...
He knew the answers to all my questions, and he understood my daughter’s need for phlebotomy school; that it is both a stepping stone into the medical field and contributes to nursing school application points. He was knowledgable throughout the whole process and had other helpful information for us as well.
The teachers were so nice and excited about seeing their students succeed. They have small class sizes making it easier when asking questions and to get one on one time with the teachers. I can say after my daughters schooling and externship with American Harbor College, she was able to confidently pass the national exam and is now a licensed phlebotomist.
AHC was there to help with getting paperwork and forms processed until she received her license from the state of California. I would highly recommend AHC. Great customer service! Great Team! Great school!

I am currently working at a Level II trauma hospital as a phlebotomist. I enjoy working there because it’s very fast paced and I’ve been in situations where I’ve had stressed and agitated patients & I’ve had to remain calm to be able to talk to the patient and explain what I will be doing step by step and hopefully, that will make them feel more comfortable.
My experience at American harbor college was great. The enrollment process was smooth. Brian answered all my questions that I had before enrolling and helped me with job applications once I received my license. Mr. Castro was my instructor and he was very helpful during lecture and hands on training. I felt well prepared for my exam and took it a few days after the last lecture.
I am currently in nursing school so having this skill and experience under my belt is going to benefit me in the long run.

I’m so glad I decided to attend American Harbor College. I researched Phlebotomy schools...
The teachers Mr. Castro and Mr. Hernandez have a combined experience of about 60 years in Phlebotomy so they know a lot!! I have a degree in Science and can honestly say Mr. Castro and Mr. Hernandez are on par if not above the teachers at my university. The class sizes are small which means you get a thorough explanation of anything you’re unsure of without being afraid to speak up.
They are very reasonably priced too. This school deserves hundreds of 5 star reviews. I just can’t fault it. Thanks Lynn, Brian, Mr. Castro and Mr. Hernandez!

I’m in the last night of my 2 week course here. I am SO glad I found this program.
I’m in the last night of my 2 week course here. I am SO glad I found this program. Not only are they very reasonably priced, but Brian and Lynn are so friendly and accommodating. When one of the students was struggling to find a vein, Lynn came into the class and let her practice on her! If this doesn’t show you that the staff is dedicated to the success of their students, I don’t know what does. Mr. Castro is an awesome professor. I feel very prepared and the lectures were interesting with a lot of laughs. The class size is small and we all got to know each other in a relaxed atmosphere. I would highly recommend this program.
Also – they will let you come back to sit for lecture and practice venipuncture even after the class is over if you’re not yet comfortable. I’m very impressed.

I absolutely loved my American Harbor College experience.
I absolutely loved my American Harbor College experience. It is definitely a top institution in my books. Unfortunately, I feel that it may sometimes get overlooked/ underrated. People have this preconception that a university should be GRAND in name and LARGE in stature, but Socrates was one the most influential educators in history and his school wasn’t composed of 50+ classes.
All you need is a good instructor, place to meet, helpful staff, a laboratory, and your license is but a few short weeks away! Exactly what you should expect from this program.
That being said, your experience at American Harbor College (and in life in general) is up to you — you determine your path and what you take from it.
This program took me on a fantastic journey of self-discovery. I started out determined to just get in, get out, and find a place to work. Instead I found myself making friends with my class mates, working on my resume with the career advisor, Nadesha, and having many chats with Brian the program director (Great guy! Super friendly! Makes you want to hug him every time he says hi!)
There were some students that spent a majority of their time grumbling and complaining at every opportunity possible. “This is too hard” .. “There is too much reading to do…” ……
You’d be surprised how many adults do not comprehend the fact that YOU ARE GETTING A LICENCE TO STICK NEEDLES INTO PEOPLE…THERE WILL BE A FAIR AMOUNT OF WORK…
And it has nothing to do with having a background in science. More than half of my class had no degree in biology, but they put in the effort to learn the required material. They came to class early to practice on the mannequins. They stayed late after class (with the instructor) and continued to refine the areas they were struggling in… and few weeks later.. they were certified and deserving of their certification for that matter.
This is an accelerated program; it requires hard work and dedication. The staff at American Harbor College are here to help you succeed and they will give you all the attention you need, whether you’re in a class of 5 or 25! No one will be neglected.
Just remember, you need to be a helpful student. If a few dates change along the way regarding the off-campus training site…. Well buddy guess what.. this is a FACT of medicine. Hospitals and clinic may encounter turbulence with staffing. Or the student before you may need an extra day or two to finish before you can take their place. Don’t blame the school for what is NOT in their hands to control! Be patient and work with the school to help them, help you succeed.
I am very grateful to have attended such a wonderful program. I am now a licensed phlebotomist and it is all thanks to you.
Thank you American Harbor College

When choosing a school for phlebotomy, it was crucial to attend a school with a nationally certified program as well as friendly staff. After checking out a couple of other schools, I decided American Harbor College was the right fit for me, and I certainly was very pleased! The instructor, was very knowledgeable and was always more than happy to answer any questions I had. Brian, Linnea, and Asher were also very amiable and attentive to my needs. I would definitely recommend this school!

I was really stressed out when I first came to American Harbor College because I didn’t know what to expect. But thanks to a excellent staff and teachers it was a great learning relaxing and great learning experience.
Brian (vice president) was a nice and gave me a tour of the campus the first day when I went for my orientation. The next week when our class started I was very excited to start because of how great and nice our instructor Arpi was.
She was very caring towards all of the student, she thought us everything In a slow and understandable pace. And for the NHA test (the board exam) Arpi had a review sheet and went over everything we needed to know and pass our NHA with confidence!
Overall my experience at American Harbor College was great thanks to all the excellent staff and teachers. I would recommend American Harbor College!
